MOONRISE TEA GARDEN

HOME OF THE CUP OF ALOHATM

About Us

I have great childhood memories of drinking tea.  I spent a lot of time with my grandparents.  Whenever I got a tummy ache, Grandma would brew up a nice cup of tea, and I would always feel better.  I can still remember the comfort of
Gramma's big soft couch and that steamy cup of tea.

That’s how tea got it’s start actually, as a medicinal drink.  For over two thousand years, beginning in
China, tea has been consumed for it’s health benefits, and for most of that time, for it’s exceptional taste as well.

Moonrise Tea Garden is a peaceful organic tea garden on the slopes of Mauna Kea, overlooking Hilo Bay on the Windward, (eastern) side of Hawai'i Island.  We grow organic tea, herbals, spices, medicinals, natives, and sustainable food. A resident flock of semi-wild mallard ducks patrol for bugs and soar overhead.  I'o, the endangered Hawaiian Hawk can also be seen doing lazy circles in the skies above the farm and bordering streams filled with ginger and guava, bamboo and bananas, swimming holes and waterfalls.

Mauna Kea, which translates as White Mountain, is often snow capped in the winter, and we feel the cool mountain breezes coming from the summit of almost 14,000 feet.  When measured from the sea floor Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world.  We are located on the lush green slopes above Hilo Bay.  The Hilo Bay watershed is as large as the entire island of Kauai.  We are high enough in elevation to avoid the wilting heat often occuring at elevations near sea level, yet low enough to avoid temperatures cold enough to force the tea into winter dormancy.  This allows us to harvest year round.

Esentially we are at an ideal elevation with lots of sun yet plenty of life-giving rain and perfect year-round temperatures.  Our tea responds to these ideal conditions and grows the best Hawai'i Grown Tea so that you always get Aloha in every cup.

Moonrise Tea Garden, in the beginning stages, is the best source of Hawaii Grown tea, and will soon become an amazing destination for tours and classes.

Please keep in touch and watch our garden grow.

Aloha Kako,
